Health Care
The residents' well being and medical care is given by a local GP in the community. We do not use a private practice but prefer the Local Authority dentist who is familiar with autism and is able to use British Sign Language. We buy in the services of a neuro-physchiatrist and a freelance psychologist who specialises in adults who have behaviours which challenge. We do not offer nursing care facilities but in common with the local community, have access to the District Nursing Service should the GP consider it necessary. Senior staff are trained in the administration of medicines. Other clinical services include speech and language therapy, art therapy, audiology assessments, aromatherapy and reflexology, podiatry, chiropody, dietician, diabetes, epilepsy and ophthalmic appointments. Occupational therapy and other medical services are provided through a contract with Stockport Healthcare NHS Trust
Care Services
Those who live at Griffin Lodge are cared for holistically and it is recognised how important families or advocates are in enabling us to provide individualised care packages. Each resident has a care plan incorporating risk assessments and a Person Centred Plan, which encourages each one to realise his or her fullest potential. Individuals, their families and Social Workers are all actively encouraged to participate in the production of the residents care plan and changes deemed appropriate by evaluation. Reviews may be set quarterly, six monthly or annually depending on need and covers everything relevant to the care and well being of the individual.
Griffin Lodge employs a multi-element approach to positive programming and non-aversive strategies, designed to give the resident greater skills and competencies for the purpose of controlling or eliminating problem behaviour, in order to facilitate and enhance social integration. By incorporating the four variations of positive programming, general skill development, functionally equivalent and functionally related skills and coping skills, our residents are given the opportunity to develop capabilities in the areas of domestic, vocational and community functioning as well as effective ways of tolerating the stresses of everyday life.
