The staff group at Griffin Lodge are highly motivated, dedicated and skilled at supporting the residents towards independence. The majority of staff are care workers supported by a Speech and Language Therapist, Art Therapist, Cook, two administrators and two Cleaners. We believe this is important as the younger age offers a peer model to the client group and the more mature members offer valuable life experience. A proportion of the staff are hearing impaired which enables us to understand and to promote deaf culture.
All new staff complete a thorough induction programme covering mandatory training such as Adult Protection, Manual Handling, First Aid, Management of Behaviour (Low arousal approach accredited by The British Institute of Learning Disabilities), Deaf Awareness, Autism Awareness and Communication.
New staff also complete the Common Induction Standards and all staff are enrolled on NVQ programmes from Level 2 up to Level 4. All senior staff are trained in Safe Handling of Medication. Sign language classes are provided. The comprehensive training schedule enables staff to receive current advice and information on all aspects of care. A number of staff have undertaken the Undergraduate Certificate in Profound Learning Disabilities at Manchester University and others have qualifications which support their role.
Staffing rotas cover 24 hours a day 7 days a week. There are three teams of 12 day/evening staff and two teams of 4 waking night staff and a Night Care Coordinator to provide high levels of support. There is a Family Link Worker who is also responsible for coordinating and researching activities for the residents.
