Students follow individualised programmes within the course. The curriculum has three main elements Skills for Life , Life Skills and Vocational/Occupational Skills. These elements are balanced with an exciting Creative Studies programme,
1- Skills for Life Learners develop in skills in Communication, Literacy, Numeracy and IT and learn to apply them real life situations.
2- Life skills, learners develop daily living skills within the college and in residence including self care and home management skills. There is a strong Sexuality and Relationships programme within Personal Health and Social Education. Leisure courses enable learners to develop skills and interests in hobbies and sports, using the specialist and community facilities.
3- Vocational Studies, give learners opportunities to try a range of occupational options, including Small Bird Management, Bakery, Floristry, Horticulture, Mini Business Enterprise, Sign Making, Cycle Maintenance, Café enterprise. Where students show an interest in an area, a supported work experience placement is established and the college has excellent relationships with local businesses, who support to learners. Staff use Person Centred Planning to support the learners to shape their course and record preferences and aspirations.
4- Creative Studies. Art We have an exciting visual art programme, students en
joy exploring a range of media. Each year an exhibition celebrates students achievements in this area. Music students are able to access individual and group music courses. This subject offers opportunities for developing communication and interactive skills for all learners. Dance and drama, movement plays an important part of the creative programme, learners use intensive interaction to develop fundamental communication skills.
Where appropriate learners can gain awards for their achievements through OCR National Skills Profile and the Mencap GatewayAward. We have links with local colleges where some learners access ICT, communication and vocational course.
