In this department there is a greater focus on Vocational Studies and Lie Skills. Students follow courses such as Home Management and Meal Preparation to prepare them for the future. They continue to study Key Skills with a focus on funcational Literacy and Numeracy and also Creative Studies including dance, drama, music and art. The students are working towards ASDAN Accreditation following the Towards Independence Programme. Students access off-site work experience where appropriate and these experiences include the Hilton Manchester Airport, Tatton Park, cafes, shops and John Lewis.
Facilities
Students in both departments can access all the facilities available on site, including the sensory garden, greenhouse, swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, multigym, sports hall and climbing wall. Older students who are working on vocational programmes use the facilities available in residence to complete courses in home management.
The facilities include;
- An art and design room which houses a kiln and a number of potters wheels
- A science room which is also used for floristry
- A library
- A cookery room with height adjustable sink and cooker hob
- A dance and drama studio
- A Gamelan music room which houses our Indonesian Gamelan orchestra
- Soft/quiet rooms
- A sensory theatre
All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and computers.
